Buyers must apply for Downstreet’s Shared Equity Program and be selected by Central VT Habitat for Humanity's homeowner selection committee.

Are you in need of better housing?
Habitat for Humanity builds homes in partnership for those living in substandard or subsidized housing which includes unsafe conditions, expensive rent, and/or being overcrowded.
To Qualify you must:

To Qualify you must:
- Apply through for Downstreet’s Shared Equity program and be within Central Vermont Habitat for Humanity’s income limits. These limits are based on up to 80% Area Median Income (AMI). Refer to the chart below.
- Be willing to volunteer hours with Habitat for Humanity. The requirement is 250 hours per adult with loved ones able to provide up to 50% of the service time.
- Be able to show $500 in a bank account for closing costs
- Preference will be given to Veterans
The Home
Central Vermont Habitat for Humanity builds safe, energy-efficient, affordable homes for local families. Each home is designed to fit the needs of the selected homeowner family, including the number of bedrooms, size, and accessibility features.

- Driveway
- Storage shed
- Backyard and back deck
- Close walking distance to downtown Northfield
- Located next to Tops Friendly Market
- Mortgage Payment: Based on household income. Monthly housing costs, including taxes and insurance, will not exceed 30% of household income.
- Heating: High-efficiency heat pump
- Water: Municipal water
- Sewer: Municipal sewer
- Year Built: 2026
- Home Size: Designed to match family size and needs
- Included Appliances: Stove/oven, refrigerator, washer, and dryer
How our selection process works:
Complete and submit Downstreet and CVHFH's joint shared equity and homeownership application, or complete our online application. Downstreet will share the application with CVHFH.

Barre, VT 05641 - Downstreet and CVHFH will review and verify all the information in the the application.
- CVHFH will conduct a home visit at the applicant's current residence to verify the need of better housing.
- Applicants will be notified regularly about the status of their application, and will be contacted if additional information is needed.
- The selected Partner Homeowner will be notified that they were selected.
